KUTX at Home: Washed Out Ernest Greene of Washed Out joins Andrew Brown aka Soundfounder to talk about his latest album Purple Noon out August 7 on Sub Pop Records. In the second half of the 2000s, Atlanta based artist Washed Out emerged from the MySpace era of the internet with a unique and unmistakable sound. With heavy rotation on internet playlists, support from Pitchfork and his track “Feel It All Around” used as the theme for the hit TV show Portlandia, his sound firmly ingrained itself in the subconscious of indie music fans. Whether he’s using samples and drum machines or working with a live band, he’s able to consistently summon the reverb drenched sentiment and emotion of 80s and early 90s music while still sounding completely modern and original. Purple Noon is Washed Out’s fourth full length studio album and it is quite possibly his most mature and accessible record to date. For this release, he’s put aside his sample collage techniques from past records to focus on live instruments and songwriting influenced by artists like Sade and The Cars' song "Drive". Soundfounder on KUTX Every Saturday night, 1-2 a.m., Soundfounder plays electronic and beat music from Austin and around the world, focusing on new releases and old classics.
