We discussed components of Air handling unit (AHU), types of Air handling unit (AHU), and how an Air handling Unit (AHU) works. An Air handling unit or AHU consists of different components including dampers, filters, cooling coil, heating coil, motorized cooling valve, steam humidifier, and Supply Fan. There are different types of Air handling units (AHUs) which are: Return and Fresh Air Type AHU: In RAHU return air is mixed with the Fresh air inside the mixing box of the AHU. This mixing results in energy saving as return air is already conditioned and less energy is utilized to condition the mixed air compare to the only fresh air. Fresh Air Handling Unit(FAHU): It takes total fresh air, condition this air, and supplies it to the building. An Exhaust fan is also used along with FAHU to maintain the pressure balance inside the building. Some FAHU also contains a heat recovery wheel that recovers energy from the return and helps in energy savings.
