This conversation was held on Zoom on Wednesday, April 12, at 4:00 p.m. This was the final event in the four-part series, "Contemporary Conversations in Christianity," developed and led by Elizabeth Schrader Polczer, doctoral candidate in Religious Studies at Duke and the 2022-23 Anne Firor Scott Public Scholarship Fellow. For this program, she was in conversation with James Martin, S.J., about “Christianity and the LGBTQ Community.” They discussed Fr. Martin’s book "Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity". They also discussed various approaches to LGBTQ inclusion taken by different Christian denominations, including the Catholic, Episcopal, and Methodist traditions. This event was sponsored by the Forum for Scholars and Publics, with additional assistance from Duke Chapel, the Office of Student Affairs, the Graduate Program in Religion, the Graduate School, and the John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute at Duke University.
