Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, better known as Iz, was a Hawaiian legend for his ukulele playing. When he passed away in 1997, 10,000 Hawaiians attended his memorial. Years later, the musician would become a posthumous global phenomenon thanks to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. Edgar Allan Poe died insane and penniless, just like one of the protagonists from his strange-fiction stories. Finally, Anne Frank may be the celebrity figure with the saddest story of all, as she died in a concentration camp before her diary was published.
