In this story from Prairie Sportsman, host Brett Amundson takes us on an adventure through Northern Minnesota's snowmobiling trails. He starts off at the Voyager Lodge, where he rents snowmobiles to explore the hundreds of miles of trails in the area. Brett meets Jim Jansen, who runs Voyager Lodge and gives them a plan for the day's ride. He also tells us about the rich history of the trails, how they were used in the past as logging roads and have now been transformed into groomed trails that offer a lot of variety. They also stop at a local favorite called Mel George's Elephant Lake Lodge, which is a historic spot that caters to all types of sportsmen, including snowmobilers, hunters, and fishermen. Brett also mentions the funding for the trails comes from Iron Range Resource and Rehabilitation Board, and the economic impact of these trails on the local community. Overall, this story offers a glimpse into the beautiful snowy wilderness of Minnesota, where snowmobiling is a popular and exciting winter activity, and where visitors can also learn about the history and culture of the area. #PrairieSportsman #PioneerPBS #Minnesota Prairie Sportsman celebrates our love of the outdoors to hunt, fish and recreate, and promotes environmental stewardship.
