In this video we will be taking you around the beautiful continent of Africa bringing you the top 20 most developed countries in Africa. A developed country is defined as a sovereign state that has a buoyant economy and technologically advanced infrastructure when compared to other nations. There are several factors that determine whether or not a country is developed, such as the political stability, gross domestic product (GDP), industrialization and freedom. The Human Development Index was developed by the United Nations to measure human development in a country. The UN HDI is a statistical measure that gauges a country's level of human development taking into account how income is turned into education and health opportunities and therefore into higher levels of human development. HDI is quantified by looking at a country’s human development such as education, health, Transport network, Standard of living and life expectancy. HDI is set on a scale from 0 to 1 with most countries in Europe Dominating the list. The most developed country in Africa only occupies the 62nd position in the world which indicates Africa still has a long way to go when it comes to development. While the most Developed country in the world might not be in Africa, Africa however has its fair share of developed countries, so with any further delay and going by the Human Development here are the Top 20 most Developed countries in Africa 20. Angola – HDI - 0.574 Starting off at 20th place is the Beautiful country of Angola, Angola is the 7th largest country in Africa. Angola has made substantial economic and political progress since the end of the war in 2002. However, the country continues to face massive development challenges, which include reducing its dependency on oil and diversifying the economy; rebuilding its infrastructure; and improving institutional capacity, governance, public financial management systems, human development indicators, and the living conditions of the population. Angola currently has a population of about 31.1 million people and a nominal GDP of about 124.6 Million dollars. With a human development index of 0.574, it is the 20th most developed country in Africa. 19. Kenya - HDI – 0.579 Kenya is not only one of the most powerful countries in east Africa, it is also one of the most powerful in the entire continent of Africa. Its Capital city Nairobi is one of the most beautiful and visited cities in Africa. Kenya a population of about 47.5 million people and a nominal GDP of about 109 million dollars. Kenya has made significant political, structural and economic reforms that have largely driven sustained economic growth, social development and political gains over the past decade. Equatorial Guinea – HDI - 0.588 Progress in human development is below Equatorial Guinea’s economic potential. According to the human development index, the country went from 139 of 188 countries in 2016 to 141 of 187 in 2017. The gross enrollment rate in primary education was 80%, and the grade repetition rate 24%. Unemployment affected 25% of the working-age population in 2017, and the hydrocarbon sector employed only 4% of the workforce. The Spanish speaking country currently have a population of about 1.3 million people and currently ranks as the 18th most developed country in Africa. 17. Zambia – HDI - 0.591 Located in the southern Part of Africa, Zambia is a Landlocked country with a population of about 17.4 Million people. The country has seen tremendous improvement in its Health and Education sectors in Recent years and is amongst one of the safest and most peaceful countries in Africa. With a Human Development index of about 0.591, Zambia currently ranks as the 17th most developed country in Africa. 16. Ghana – HDI - 0.596 Ghana is a country located in the western part of Africa, it is one of the most beautiful and visited countries in that part of the continent. Ghana is the world's second largest cocoa producer behind Ivory Coast, and Africa's biggest gold miner after South Africa. It is one of the continent's fastest growing economies and has made major progress in the attainment and consolidation of growth. Significant progress has been made in poverty reduction.
