The 2023 White Paper on Embedding Lakes into the Global Sustainability Agenda (zenodo.org) was written to support UNEA Resolutions 3/10 on “Addressing water pollution to protect and restore water-related ecosystems” (UNEP/EA.3/Res.10); 5/2 on “Sustainable nitrogen management” (UNEP/EA.5/Res.2); 5/4 on “Sustainable Lake Management” (UNEP/EA.5/Res.4); and 5/5 on “Nature-based solutions for supporting sustainable development”. These resolutions provide a framework and ambition for better management of surface waters, of which lakes are of major importance. The webinar on Managing Lakes for Nature Based Solutions provides an opportunity to identify and discuss how lakes can be used themselves as a Nature Based Solution, or how Nature Based Solutions can be used to protect and restore lakes. Participants may be interested in reading the open access paper “Poikane et al. (2024): A global assessment of lake restoration in practice: New insights and future perspectives. Ecological Indicators, 158,” that can be downloaded at: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ecolind.202.... Video edited by Erica Zaja (UKCEH)
