"Breaking News Polka" by Alma Deutscher

Eilmeldung Polka (neue Concordia Polka). Commissioned by the Concordia Press Club Vienna and the Johann Strauss 2025 Wien festival. World premiere on May 23, 2025, at the Concordia Press Ball at the Rathaus in Vienna. Alma Deutscher conducting the Wiener Opernball Orchester. I was honoured to be asked to write a new Polka for the Concordia Press Club, following in the footsteps of Johann Strauss, who wrote many dances for the Vienna Press Club. I wanted to combine Strauss' sound world with modern elements, so I decided to write a short introduction with a mélange of signature tunes of Austrian and international news broadcasts, and then incorporate one of the themes in the Polka itself. I hope you enjoy it.
