A conference organized by the Opposition team was held today at the Crown Hotel, where several national concerns were brought to light. The event was led by the former Prime Minister, Hon. Peter O'Neill, and supported by other senior Opposition figures. In his address, Hon. O'Neill highlighted multiple ongoing issues affecting the country. He emphasized the deterioration of law and order, a significant decline in education standards, and inadequate service delivery, particularly in rural and marginalized communities. He expressed concern that essential services are not effectively reaching the people and called on Members of Parliament, especially those from the government side, to support a change in national leadership. Hon. O'Neill made a direct appeal to Pangu MPs, urging them to take responsibility and contribute to reshaping the current government leadership for the benefit of the country. Following Mr. O'Neill’s remarks, East Sepik Governor Hon. Allan Bird voiced his support. He shed light on alleged corrupt dealings related to the Connect PNG Project, expressing concern over transparency and governance. Governor Bird also discussed delays in health sector funding and the adverse impact this has had on public well-being. Governor Bird concluded by urging government MPs to approach the matter with an open mind and consider joining the Opposition’s call for a change in the Prime Minister’s leadership.
