Rethinking Care: Health as Relationship and Resistance Public Lecture with Dr Rita Issa CLiP Open Session #2 – Kunstinstituut Melly How might we rethink health and care beyond systems of crisis management? What does it mean to understand care as a relationship and as a form of resistance? In this filmed public lecture, Dr Rita Issa (primary care doctor, researcher, and organiser) shares visionary approaches to health that centre community, solidarity, and justice. Drawing on her work across clinical practice, community organising, and policy, Issa explores models of care that challenge extractive systems and expand what is possible in healthcare today. Through short media fragments and practical examples, she makes tangible how care can be practiced collectively, politically, and otherwise. This lecture took place as part of CLiP (Collective Learning in Practice) #7: The Garage of Prepping Otherwise, an educational programme by Kunstinstituut Melly curated by The Garage School. CLiP #7 brings together young participants to explore collective survival in times of global crisis, using creative and practical methods such as discussion, movement, LARPing, food preservation, and mutual aid. About the speaker Dr Rita Issa is a primary care doctor, researcher, and organiser. Her work spans the UK and international contexts, focusing on health(care), migrant rights, and climate and environmental justice. She is particularly interested in care as both a relational and political practice. About CLiP Open Sessions As part of CLiP #7, Kunstinstituut Melly hosts a free public session every month, sharing the ideas and practices developed within the programme. 📍 Recorded live at Kunstinstituut Melly, Rotterdam 🗓️ Friday 28 November 2025 ⏱️ 12–1 pm
