Two damaged barges lay just off the Oder riverbank in Mescherin, Germany on the border to Poland. Legend has it the duo were sent on a secret mission at the end of WWII to retrieve top secret battle footage from Germany's submarine program as the Russians advanced. The story is based on an eyewitness account from a local man who, as boy, swam out to the sunken bargest with a friend, and discovered a box of films with what looked like submarine footage. More likely, the films were training or test footage from a nearby submarine harbor in what is now Poland.
