Wide of followers inside holy sepulchre STORYLINE: Thousands of enthusiastic supporters gathered in the Christian quarter of the old city of Jerusalem on Sunday to welcome the newly nominated Latin patriarch in the holy land. Pope Benedict XVI named a Palestinian archbishop, Fouad Twal, as the top Roman Catholic prelate in the Holy Land on Saturday. Followers, clergy and nuns joined Twal for a colourful procession through the streets, that ended at the holy sepulchre where the new patriarch was officially ordained. The 67 year old will replace long time Latin patriarch, Michel Sabbah, in the Jerusalem-based post. Twal, a native of Jordan, had been serving as Sabbah's assistant since 2005 and had been expected to take his place. He has served in Vatican diplomatic posts in Honduras, Germany and Peru, and studied church law in Rome's prestigious Pontifical Lateranense University.
