Protect Your Hearing: Intensity and Duration of Noise | WorkSafeBC

Hearing loss can seriously affect your lifestyle. Watch this hearing loss prevention video to find out how workplace noise can damage your ears and what you can do to prevent noise-induced hearing loss. In this video, we see examples of hazardous noise levels faced by bartenders and other workers in the hospitality industry. We also see examples of noise exposure levels and noise exposure limits, and the time it takes to experience noise-induced hearing loss from a variety of different noises. Noise-induced hearing loss is permanent but preventable. When hazardous noise cannot be reduced by other means, employers are responsible for providing appropriate hearing protection, such as earplugs or earmuffs. Always wear hearing protection while working in a loud environment, whether in hospitality, construction, or any environment where you’re exposed to loud or continuous noise. Please note that various noisy workplaces are shown in this video. While forklifts in sawmills and manufacturing plants can exceed safe noise levels, those in warehouses often measure below 85 dBA Lex.
