Haunting Midlothian footage shows damage after abandoned hospital inferno The devastation left by a blaze that took hold of an abandoned Midlothian hospital has been captured in drone footage. after flames took over the building on July 15. Firefighters tackled the flames in the early hours of July 15, at Rosslynlee Hospital near Penicuik. Locals were asked to avoid the area at the time, with six appliances mobilised to the scene. The hospital dates back to 1874, when it opened as the Midlothian and Peebles Asylum. At the time, it housed around 500 patients with mental health issues. In 1948, it became the Rosslynlee Mental Hospital - before changing to Rosslynlee Hospital in 1960. It closed in 2011, and has lain empty since.
