Speaker denies permission for Pritam Singh from using undisclosed police statements in motion

Leader of Opposition Pritam Singh expressed disappointment after the Speaker of Parliament declined his request to use undisclosed police statements during a parliamentary debate on 14 Jan. Singh said he had sought permission from the public prosecutor to refer to a sworn statement by Ms Loh Pei Ying, a former Workers’ Party member in her police interview, but the request was rejected. He argued that Parliament’s sovereignty allowed consideration of such material. Speaker Seah Kian Peng ruled against the request, citing Section 225A of the Criminal Procedure Code and the need to respect judicial processes. Singh said he respected the decision.
