The Hematology-Oncology Fellowship at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County is dedicated to providing outstanding training to fellows in our subspecialty. Through the mission of our hospital at Kings County to improve the lives of our diverse community, we will foster an environment that embraces cultural diversity. Our vision is to be nationally recognized for preparing our medical students, residents, and fellows to improve patient’s lives by providing excellent clinical education, advancing research, and delivering the highest quality of patient care. NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County is a safety net for many patients. The system cares for many patients as a premier tertiary referral center for the region. Patients come from all over the world to get advanced care not otherwise available in their home country. We provide personalized, comprehensive care with the newest FDA approved gene sequencing technologies and targeted therapies. In addition to a tremendously diverse and busy inpatient and outpatient oncology and hematology service, trainees have the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary breast oncology clinic and dedicated leukemia and lymphoma clinic. Fellows participate and present at multidisciplinary tumor boards, journal clubs, conferences, and have ample opportunity to perform bone marrow aspiration and administer Intrathecal chemotherapy. Our trainees work in an interdisciplinary team of chemo nurses at our infusion center, dedicated chemo pharmacists, oncology nutritionist, social work, palliative care, surgical oncologist, and nationally renowned sickle cell program all on one floor. They also are provided with research opportunities to enroll patients in novel clinical and translational trials with the hope of improving survival and quality of life for our unique patient population. We are a teaching hospital. Every fellow is expected to teach medical students, residents, and all members of the team. Above all, fellows will learn to care for all patients from low socioeconomic status, the uninsured, and a diverse immigrant population. They will know to provide the highest quality care with empathy, dignity, and professionalism.
