Andalusian heritage and history unite Granada and Chefchaouen, in Spain and Morocco, as living continuations of Islamic civilization. Together, they carry forward the story of that civilization—its faith, beauty, an—beyond the birth of modernity in 1492. This contemplative documentary traces that continuity through fortresses, streets, markets, trees, fountains, and mountains, revealing how exiles carried Andalusia’s beauty across the Strait. It features Shaykh ʿAlī Raissouni — Sufi shaykh, historian, and descendant of Chefchaouen’s founder — and a rare Qurʾānic recitation in an Andalusian-Moroccan style reminiscent of European liturgical chant. The documentary explores how the fall of Granada in 1492 marked not only the end of Muslim rule in Iberia but the dawn of the modern world — the same year Ferdinand and Isabella sent Columbus across the Atlantic and the Portuguese pushed down the African coast toward Asia. Amid these upheavals, a few exiles from Granada crossed the Strait and founded Chefchaouen, a mountain sanctuary of resistance and renewal built around a red fortress that still echoes Granada’s crimson towers. Transdisciplinary scholar and poet Dr. Jason Idriss Sparkes (Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University, Saudi Arabia) offers a contemplative and decolonial reflection on what connects these sacred geographies — not only through history and architecture but through theoria: the art of seeing, sensing, and ultimately tasting. @jasonidrisssparkes6549 Here is the link to our Morocco and Islamic Spain playlist: • Morocco and Islamic Spain Here is the link to Paloma’s Channel: / @elcanaldepaloma Chapters 0:00 Intro 0:49 Channel Intro 1:00 Shared Andalusian Heritage 6:07 Granada 7:25 After 1492 10:49 Share the Love 11:03 Alhambra & Albayzín 13:48 Paloma’s Channel 14:17 Chefchaouen the Blue Pearl 16:12 Into the Old City 17:16 Shaykh Ali Raissouni 20:03 Deeper into the City 22:39 Quran Recitation 24:33 Salams This channel speaks especially to those who walk the path of beauty and tradition.
