Let's go get that dino one more time. In today's video, I pay one final visit to Dinoland USA and, more importantly, ride DINOSAUR one last time before they both close for good on February 1st, 2026. DINOSAUR is (or I should say, was) my favorite ride in all of Animal Kingdom. However, that love for the ride came too late for me, as I rode it for the first time right around when Disney announced the attraction would be going away forever in the fall of 2023. Despite my short history with the attraction, it will always hold a near and dear place in my heart for its bouncy thrills, massive dinosaurs, and adorable hand-puppet preshows. DINOSAUR, originally named "Countdown to Extinction", opened with Animal Kingdom on April 22nd, 1998. At the time, it was not only the park's sole dark ride attraction, it was also the park's only thrill ride. It utilized the EMV ride vehicles and system that is also used in the Indiana Jones attraction over at Disneyland. Over the years, the attraction toned down it's intensity and even changed its name to 'DINOSAUR' to promote Disney's newest film at the time also called "Dinosaur". Despite the changes, it was thrilling, bumpy, and full of laughs and/or screams depending who you rode with. For me personally, it was such a fun attraction, easily the best part of Dinoland USA, and hands down my favorite ride at Animal Kingdom as a whole. By far this has been the most devastating ride closure next to Muppet Vision 3D. I do have high hopes for the new Tropical Americas section that will be replacing Dinoland, as well as the clone of the Indiana Jones ride that will be replacing "DINOSAUR", but I will sorely miss what was there originally.
