The stories of Jesus' birth are referred to as the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The two stories found in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew serve as the main foundation for this. According to Luke and Matthew's canonical gospels, Jesus was born to a virgin mother called Mary in Bethlehem, Judea. Luke tells the Christmas narrative, as Joseph and Mary visit Bethlehem as part of a census. There is a manger where Jesus is born. Luke's story takes place before Jesus's birth, focusing on Mary, while Matthew's story takes place after Jesus's birth, focusing on Joseph. The other Canonical Gospels, the Gospel of Mark and the Gospel of John, begin their narratives of Jesus's life in adulthood. Both Matthew and Luke mention the betrothal of Jospeh and Mary and the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.
