This isn't just a date on the election calendar. It's a reset of the balance of power. It's a reorganization of the upper house's strength. Approximately 72 to 75 seats will become vacant due to retirements throughout the year. Members will change in phases in April, June, July, and November. Looking at the current situation as of February 2026, the BJP holds 103 seats out of a total of 245. Congress holds 27. The TMC holds 12, the AAP and DMK hold 10 seats each. The BJD holds 7, the YSRCP 5, and the AIADMK 7. Seven members are nominated. Overall, the NDA's strength is around 121. The INDIA bloc holds around 80 seats. But this balance is about to change. It's estimated that the NDA could gain 7 to 9 seats, taking its strength to 145.
