Some material may be outdated. 0:00 - Introduction 5:12 - Mini-Tutorial: Expert Tips on Writing an NIH Resubmission (A1) with Meg Bouvier PhD 15:25 - Question 1: Our R01 proposal was reviewed by the study section at the end of January. Based on other PI reports, I was expecting to see that "Not Discussed" to turn into either "Competitive Not Discussed" or "Not Competitive Not Discussed", to differentiate whether we landed in the middle or bottom tier. It's now nearly 3 weeks since review, and there's been no change. Is this simply a sign from the universe that I need to be more patient? 17:22 - Question 2: Does a percentile score carry any significance with the new centralized peer review system for K applications? I recently received one for an NCI A1 K application (and hadn’t for my A0, just an impact score) but am unsure which of impact scores or percentile scores are more significant for funding decisions. 18:57 - Question 3: I’ve been asked to submit a one-page post-submission update with new results for my R21. What exactly should I include in that update to make it most effective and appropriate within NIH guidelines? 19:42 - Question 4: I’m an early stage investigator. Does the K grant have to be submitted in the same institute of the primary mentor? 21:40 - Question 5: If one reviewer does not like the proposal but the other two reviewers really like the proposal, should I submit to the same study section? 22:58 - Question 6: Is the new biosketch obligatory for March 5th renewal deadline or waived as for Feb? 24:53 - Question 7: In terms of K99 eligibility timelines, if an applicants K99 eligibility deadline ends between the June and October deadlines (say, in late September), could that applicant submit a K99 application for the October deadline as long as the application was submitted prior to the eligibility end date (say, early September), even though it wouldn’t be reviewed until the other October deadline applications are received? 30:39 - Question 8: Is it permissible to include a co-PI or a subcontractor from an institution that is not R15-eligible? If so, are there any specific limitations or considerations I should be aware of? 35:52 - Question 9: The study section that I requested, based on multiple ART recommendations, was not the study section that reviewed our submission. Do you see this often? 43:57 - Question 10: Is the new biosketch format mandatory for the March 5th renewal? 44:54 - Question 11: When is the Ask the Expert on human subjects? 47:36 - Question 12: Has anyone had any issues submitting a bio sketch with the html tag formatting? 48:45 - Question 13: I am an early stage investigator. Does the K need to be submitted at the primary mentor’s institute? 50:55 - Question 14: Do you find the emails from grants.gov about new NIH grant announcements to be a satisfactory replacement for the NIH Guide to Grants and Contracts? I find grants.gov difficult to navigate and emails to be poorly organized. Is there any hope of resurrecting the NIH Guide to Grants and Contracts? 58:48 - Final remarks Do you have questions about your current grantwriting project?
