Battery new. Old one was dated 7/21. Percock replaced. Because I can. Spark plug swapped out, then got a new one. Good CDI has been swapped from my working 1993 KLF 300 2x4. Keihin carb has been cleaned and rebuilt so many times. I have two of them. Currently have a Chinesium carb in it. This bike had the optional carb heater/sensor. It confused me for a bit as it had similar wiring to the CDi. Anyway, have taken the bloody thing out. Same fault all the way along of making horrible noises when revs are applied. It will spit and backfire (proper back fire from the air intake). Tuning is fine now I have adjusted the inlet valve to the correct gap. It had no gap at all. Am sure it has nothing to do with the carb now EXCEPT that this bike has a modified/repaired exhaust system. It ‘could’ possibly be that the carb is imbalanced for the exhaust back pressure setup but this is not my favourite theory. I suspect the cabling from the pickup (cam sensor) which is needed to get a timing signal to the CDi. I could suspect the voltage regulator/rectifier but it can simply be disconnected to prove it is not relevant. Tomorrow, I’m going to take a dumper truck to pieces to salvage a gearbox and brakes….then investigate the wiring on this quad. Wish me luck.
