Originally sold on October 22, 1959, at Joe Lazar Cadillac Inc. in San Bernardino, California, the car was purchased new by C.M. Herington, who was known for buying a new Eldorado every two years. Through the original sales sheet and owner's manual, we were even able to connect with the grandson of the original owner. The car remained in California from new until 2001, with full service records documenting its care and ownership history. It was then sold to a couple in Findlay, Ohio, who continued to cherish and show the car, though it has seen limited road use since its complete restoration in 2000. The sale includes the original California yellow license plate set. Exterior Restored to its original factory specifications in 2000 while still in California, this Eldorado was repainted in its original color using a base coat/clear coat system that brings out the car's elegant lines and dramatic presence. The body is laser straight and rust free, with flawless panel fitment and incredible depth to the paint. All trim, bumpers, grilles, emblems, and lenses are in show-quality condition. The chrome shines like new, and the glass is crystal clear throughout. This Biarritz is a multiple award-winning car, and it can easily serve as either a high-end driver or a trailer queen. The paint still polishes to a mirror finish, and the matching painted parade boot is in excellent condition. The convertible top is likewise in great shape, functioning well with the original switch, though the switch itself is slightly touchy. We do note that the top is now in Beige instead of it's factory specified Ivory. The car rides on correct factory wheels wrapped in Coker wide whitewall tires that are in excellent condition. All exterior functions—lights, horn, top, and power windows—are fully operational. Interior The interior remains largely original and beautifully preserved. The rare factory bucket seats, trimmed in high-quality materials, retain their correct form and are fully powered and functioning. The power window switches all work properly, and the dash shows minimal wear, with original gauges displaying 90,000 miles, believed to be accurate. The factory air conditioning system and rare Autronic Eye headlamp dimmer are intact. The original radio powers on but currently does not emit sound. The steering wheel, door panels, trim, and knobs are all present and in excellent condition, with no signs of pitting or deterioration. The original dash is in excellent shape aside from the non-functioning factory clock. We do note that the windshield wiper motor is currently inoperative and will require a rebuild—units are readily available for rebuild from Cadillac specialists such as Caddy Daddy. Underhood and Mechanical Under the hood lies the original, numbers-matching 390 cubic inch V8 (engine stamp matches VIN), paired with the correct 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The car retains its triple-carburetor setup, and it fires right up with ease. The engine runs smoothly with no smoke or valvetrain noise, and it is believed to have been rebuilt during the restoration. The engine bay presents cleanly and with great attention to originality, consistent with the rest of the car. The factory A/C compressor engages properly, though the system is still running on R12 refrigerant and will need to be recharged or converted to R134a. Mechanically, the car has received continued care, including a fresh battery and regularly greased suspension joints. The alignment is accurate, and the car drives with confidence.
