But there are 2 types of cookware you should avoid at all costs: 1. Aluminum Cookware is Toxic: A 2023 study in the journal Toxics looked at the leaching properties of different types of cookware. The researchers found two things: First, most people use aluminum cookware because it’s affordable and widely available. And second, aluminum cookware leaches significant toxic metals into food, and cooking with it regularly is a significant health risk. 2. Nonstick Cookware Is Also Toxic: Nonstick cookware has a metal base, but it’s coated in a black outer layer of a chemical called PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), or Teflon. Q&A: 1.
