This wound is a second above the dagger, against a third over the left foot. Our fencer starts in third guard with a small step, with the sword-point in perspective with the opponent’s daggerhand. The opponent steps forward with his leading left foot in order to find our fencer’s sword to the inside with his dagger. In that instant, our fencer turns from third to second and pushes forward with his right foot, wounding the opponent above the dagger. He also keeps his dagger close to the opponent’s sword-point, so that he can easily parry any attack the opponent may launch. This same wound could result from the following action. Our fencer starts with his point in perspective with the opponent’s dagger-hand. He lowers the point, and the opponent follows it with the dagger, also stepping forward in order to find it. But in that instant, our fencer performs a cavazione and, turning into second, wounds the opponent in the tempo of his approach. The opponent is therefore unable to parry.
