This webinar was held on March 3, 2026 and focused on an opinion editorial (OpEd) that was published on Feb 4, 2026 in the Washington Post titled, "Building a new house? This little-known rule could cost you thousands. Stormwater regulations are driving up the cost of homes across the country." This OpEd is associated with a report led by the Manhattan Institute titled, "The High Cost of Stormwater Regulations." This webinar covered the information included in the Washington Post editorial as well as the perspectives from leaders in the National Municipal Stormwater Alliance (NMSA) and American Rivers (AR) in response to the OpEd. Information on the benefits of stormwater management and the way we communicate these benefits will be shared, such as cost avoidances associated with localized flooding and erosion-driven impacts, the positive hedonic influence from nature-based infrastructure on communities and residential properties, and the economic return on investments that protect downstream waters. Speakers included: Gary Belan, PE, Director of Clean Waters Programs, American Rivers Seth Brown, PE, PhD, Executive Director, National Municipal Stormwater Alliance Scott Taylor, PE, D.WRE, Atkins, Chair, National Municipal Stormwater Alliance David Smith, Water Innovation Services, Emeritus Member, National Municipal Stormwater Alliance
