The deep forearm extensors consist of five muscles located at the posterior side of the forearm. They form the surface of the distal forearm and the wrist area, where they can be easily palpated. The deep extensors of the forearm consist of the following muscles: supinator abductor pollicis longus extensor pollicis brevis extensor pollicis longus extensor indicis The extensor indicis originates at the posterior side of the ulna and the interosseous membrane and inserts at the dorsal aponeurosis of the index finger. Like the other forearm extensors it is innervated by the radial nerve. The main function of the extensor indicis is - as the name suggests - the extension of the index finger at the metacarpophalangeal, proximal and distal interphalangeal joints. It also extends the wrist joint.
