Welcome to Philipsburg, the capital of Sint Maarten. This is the Dutch side of the island, whereas the French side is Saint Martin. This port is a beautiful canvas of cobblestone streets and colorful, colonial buildings. The port itself is vibrant, with plenty of shopping and music for anyone who doesn't wish to take a door or stray too far from the ships. However, if you're looking for a bit more, you can take a 10-15 minute walk to Philipsburg. Once you step into Philipsburg, a world of possibilities opens up. Along Front Street and the Great Bay Beach boardwalk, you'll find a plethora of shopping options, a diverse culinary scene, and a range of inexpensive drinks, promising an exciting and fulfilling experience. In fact, the beach itself is huge, with jet ski rentals, playgrounds, and a wealth of seating and lounge areas. If you're feeling particularly ambitious, you can continue along the Great Bay's coast all the way to Fort Amsterdam. These colonial ruins date back to the 1600s and are particularly interesting to check out. That said, if you're hiking, expect the walk to take about an hour.
