"Milestones" is a jazz composition written by Miles Davis. It appeared on the album of the same name in 1958. It has become a jazz standard. "Milestones" is the first example of Miles composing in a modal style. The modes consist of Gm Dorian for 16 bars, Am for another 16 bars, and then back to Gm Dorian for the last eight bars. Then the progression repeats. All in the key of F. On my version I have added an extra 16 bars after the original form (F6 going to Gm). "Milestones" was titled "Miles" on the first album pressings. People soon began referring to the tune as "Milestones" so the song title was changed. The musicians who performed on the original version of "Milestones" were: Miles Davis – trumpet Cannonball Adderley – alto saxophone John Coltrane – tenor saxophone Red Garland – piano Paul Chambers – double bass Philly Joe Jones – drums Back to my "fun" version: I made the backing track using iReal Pro. I used their basic drum and thumb bass instruments. I then added some slap bass, trumpet, tenor sax, baritone sax, flute and a bit of vocal expression. An Akai wind synth along with a Nord Electro 3 were my choice of instruments. Hope you like it. Mark
