Wide service, tilt-up interior of Cathedral STORYLINE: Thousands of Russian Orthodox believers filled Moscow's largest Orthodox church, Christ the Saviour Cathedral, on Saturday night, where the Easter service was conducted for the first time by the new Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. The service, which started an hour before midnight, was attended by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and his wife Svetlana, and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, as well as many other government officials and members of the Russian Parliament (Duma). An hour and a half earlier, the flame from Jerusalem's Holy Fire had arrived at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport and was brought to the cathedral, where the Patriarch was the first to light his candle from it. Priests then lit candles and passed them on to members of the congregation. The Patriarch greeted Medvedev and his wife, and Prime Minister Putin, and, following Russian tradition, they exchanged Easter presents - Easter eggs and icons.
