In this video we show you how to propagate Hydrangea from cuttings. You can take them any time of the year that the plant is in active growth as long as you have 4 - 6 weeks of warm weather still to come. We choose late summer and at this time you do not need bottom heat. Hydrangeas are easy to propagate from cuttings. The cuttings root very easily and no special equipment is needed. In this video we look at a simple step by step method of rooting and growing Hydrangeas from cuttings. Hydrangea cuttings are taken from non flowering stems, and are best taken in late summer. Cuttings need to be around 6 inches in length (15 cm) and the lower part should be cut just below a leaf node.. You can use hormone rooting powder or liquid to assist with the strike rate, some gardeners dip the stems in honey which acts in a similar way. Cuttings are then inserted in to a propagating soil, and mist sprayed. They are best kept in a propagation box until good signs of growth are evident. Mist spray regularly to maintain humidity.
