In this video, we attend the Star Spangled Steam Up event, held at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City. Three steam engines were operating; the museum's own locomotives, Virginia and Truckee 4-6-0 No. 25, and the "Glenbrook", were accompanied by Nevada County Narrow Gauge No. 5, "Tahoe", a sister to "Glenbrook" and visitor from the NCNG Museum in Nevada City, California. "Tahoe" and "Glenbrook" are sister locomotives, nicknamed the "Tahoe Twins", and built for the Carson and Tahoe Lumber and Fluming Company in 1875. At 150 years old, they are North America's oldest surviving narrow gauge locomotives, and some of the oldest operating locomotives of any kind in the world. We enjoy scenes of all three engines under steam, as well as a brief tour of the NSRM's museum and shop. At the end of the video, we see the Tahoe Twins lead a doubleheaded train commemorating their 150th anniversaries! Also in honor of this, we have included a narrated historical overview of the histories of the two engines in the beginning of this film. I hope you enjoy this video!
