"Stone Arthur" is a small fell (hill or mountain) located in the Lake District of Cumbria, England. Though modest in height, it's notable for its prominent position and distinctive rocky summit. Here's a brief description: Stone Arthur Elevation: 503 meters (1,650 feet) Location: Eastern Fells, near Grasmere, Lake District National Park, Cumbria, England Grid Reference (UK): NY 348 073 Parent Peak: Great Rigg Classification: Wainwright Description: Stone Arthur is often seen as an outlier or satellite of the larger fell Great Rigg, but it's distinguished by a dramatic rocky outcrop near the summit, which gives the fell its name. Alfred Wainwright, the renowned fellwalker and guidebook author, gave Stone Arthur its own place in his influential "Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells", largely because of its visual prominence from Grasmere and its summit rocks resembling a small fortress or battlement. The ascent typically begins from Grasmere village, following a steep path through bracken-covered slopes. While not challenging in technical terms, the climb offers rewarding views over Grasmere, Helm Crag, and towards the central Lake District. Despite its relatively low elevation, Stone Arthur provides a sense of accomplishment and is a popular goal for walkers seeking a shorter route with excellent scenery.
