How do I get fitter arms? or How do I make my arms thinner?? This is another common query that lot of people ask us. As we age and because of certain medical problems like #PCOS or #Hypothyroidism, people tend to start putting on weight around the arms. Sometimes, genetically you can see some people are thin otherwise but have fullness in the arms. Traditionally what is advised for that is, yes you can do exercises and diet which helps, but in certain individuals you see that they are thin or in shape overall except for the arms which look out of place and there is localised collection of fat there. So what are your options for that? apart from regular diet and exercise? So the other option that can be done is what we call "#Liposuctionofthearms". #Liposuction is good for spot reduction, that is how we reduce the fat content. Traditionally, liposuction is done mainly for the lower arms because that is what sags and gives you the "#jigglyarms" or the "#jigglyarmfat". But, now we have started noticing more and more people especially those with PCOD, because of the higher levels of testosterone, they have broader shoulders, they have fat collection around the deltoids, fat collection on the outer arm as well as on the triceps area. So, that needs to be addressed as well to give a toned look to the arms. This is done by liposuction. Typical #armliposuction is done by a small cut in the lower part of the arm from where the fat is removed. But, we also do a lipo of the outer arm then the anterior and posterior folds as well cos they all add up and add to the bulk of that shoulder area. Hence those areas need to be addressed as well. Only doing the lower arm does not give gratifying results. Of course in certain patients who have good skin quality and fat is isolated in one area then yes, you can go ahead and do that. But, most of the times we see we need to a Lipo of the outer arms and along the lateral aspect of the arm and the deltoid region. Many a time, we see that you might have to do the upper shoulder area as well to give you a better contour between your shoulders and your arm, that is between your trapezius muscle and your deltoid muscle, to give a better definition in that area. So #armliposuction is not just treating this, we have to look at the whole arm as a unit, sometimes we have to do a bit below the elbow as well like around the knees. So, we need to address that to make it uniform and smooth rather than having a bulge or a difference there. So that is how the treatment for arms is done. Typically there is small cut above the elbow from where the arm liposuction is done, the lower arms as well as the outer part. You might have an incision in the axially fold, front and back to take care of the folds. Cos, many a time you can see that when u being ur arm closer there is a bulge of the fold especially when you are wearing a sleeveless dress you can notice it better and that needs to be addressed as well. So once that and the back fold are done it will give you better definition to the arms. Post surgery you need to wear a pressure garment which helps your skin to shrink back. You can get back to your exercises in a week or 10 days. The incisions are quite small and heal pretty well. First 2-3 days lifting of the arms might be a little sore because we do a lot of lipo around the deltoids for the fat collection is they have it. But usually by the 3rd or 4th day you are back to doing all your normal activities. Complete healing for the skin to shrink and the swelling to go might take anywhere between 6-8 weeks and sometimes as long as 12 weeks. Apart from that it is a very well tolerated procedure and the results are quite gratifying. Thank you for watching. Welcome to the channel of "Aesthetics Plus Cosmetic Surgery Clinics".
