The Şanlıurfa Museum, active since 1965, was moved to a new building in 2015. But don’t let the modern building fool you, inside are artifacts dating back to the earliest known humans in the area, the Neolithic people of Göbeklitepe. Spanning a 30,000 square meter area, the largest museum in the country has 14 exhibition halls and 33 animation areas of past civilizations. The Archeopark contains replicas of ancient architecture and an archaeological excavation area to educate children in this field. While you’re there, don’t forget to visit the 11,000-year-old “Urfa Man”. Also known as the Balıklıgöl Statue, it’s the world’s oldest life-sized sculpture of a human.
