Capacity building strategies to promote equity in genomics research and global health by Dr. Alice Matimba Dr Alice Matimba is the current Acting Head of Courses and Global Training at Wellcome Connecting Science, UK (WCS). She graduated with her PhD in Human Genetics from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Thereafter, Alice pursued a pharmacogenomics postdoctoral research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in USA, before joining the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences, where she focused on health education and research in non-communicable diseases, pharmacology, genomics and ethics. Dr Matimba is currently managing the computational- and laboratory-based courses and the global training programme at WCS. Leading a team of education developers, event organisers, training technology experts and laboratory specialists, they develop and deliver a suite of genomics and bioinformatics courses, tools and resources for scientists and healthcare professionals; Alice collaborates with WCS teams and global partners to develop programmes aimed at enhancing sustainability and impact for biomedical science and public health through the Train the Trainer approaches, blended distance learning formats for global audiences, professional skills, networking and mentorship platform development. Alice's role focuses on stakeholder management and partnership building to foster collaborations, which is key to developing effective capacity development for genomics research and applications in healthcare.
