This film follows a first-generation Guyanese American youth reflecting on family lineage, innovation, and what it means to inherit a place from a distance. Though his family roots trace primarily to Bartica, his sense of belonging is shaped through friendships and shared life across Berbice. He speaks about his grandfather’s legacy on the Bartica–Parika route—where his grandfather became the first to build covered boats, ensuring passengers stayed dry during travel. What began as a practical act of care soon became the standard, with others adopting the same model. Without ceremony, his grandfather helped redefine how people moved across water. Beyond industry, the youth reflects on the quieter inheritances that keep him connected to Guyana: favorite foods, holidays, and the rhythms of family memory. These traditions—carried through taste, timing, and story—form his connection to home, even while living abroad. This piece sits after Makers of the Corentyne to honor not only those who build with their hands, but those who carry forward what was built—through memory, interpretation, and responsibility. Returning home does not begin with travel. It begins with what is remembered, protected, and passed on.
