If you are a beginner and are looking for a low budget MTB with gears, the decathlon's Btwin rockrider st 30 is one you should consider. Available in three size variants, small, medium and large, makes it suitable for those with a height between 4.10 feet to 5.9 feet. As expected, ST 30 frame and fork is made from steel and weighs around 15.3 to 15.89 kgs without accessories. We would have liked the weight to be slightly lesser for our liking. The comfort oriented bicycle frame comes in a Unisex frame design, thus making it suitable for men and women. This frame is paired with a steel fork that can accommodate a 2.125in tyre. The major advantage of this being able to install wider tyres is that the bicycle is going to feel more comfortable while riding. So if you are looking for a comfortable bike for commuting and weekend fund, then the St 30 is not meant for you. This Entry level MTB will cost you around 9,999 only and is available in two colors matt grey and matt white. The paint job is one of the best we have seen so far when it comes to btwin cycles. It gives the bicycle a much premium look as compared to the other bicycles in the market. Drive train: Considering its an entry level bicycle, the st 30 comes with Microshift 1x7 speed with grip shifter. The crankset comes with 38 Teeth and is paired with 14-28T 7 Speed Freewheel, which offers enough ratios to ride on flat and basic climbs. The shifting seemed to be precise on our test rides. We do not expect the bicycle gears to require much maintenance or tune up in the long run either. Just make sure to keep it clean and well lubed. Wheel and tyres: The wheels of the bicycle are single walled and are anodized. Anodizing prevents the aluminum rims from getting de-colorired over a period of time. We would have preferred double walled rims as it’s an MTB for those unforgiving potholes and occasional offroading. Double walled rims would surely be a game changer! These double walled rims hold hartex 26 inch tyres that are pretty good and offer enough traction on wet as well as dusty roads. Brakes: V brakes on the ST 30 do a pretty good job of stopping. They are easy to use, require really less maintenance and last long. We’d prefer rim brakes anyday over cheap mechanical disc brakes that add more weight to the bicycle and don’t last long at all. Saddle: When it comes to the saddle, btwin offers theSport ergonomic foam saddle that is supported by a welded seat post. Similar to the front wheel, the seat post also comes with a quick release that lets you make adjustments on the go. Also, we recommend investing in an Extra cushion for comfortable longer rides.
