The LMS Jubilee class 'Leander' puts on a super display over the Northern Hills as it hauls the season opener of the Fellsman summer steam tours. The Fellsman tours didn't run last year due to complications, but this year they're back and all trains are sold out ! The highlight of the Fellsman is the trip over the S&C in both directions, which fully caters for enthusiasts and day trippers alike. The route is an arduous one, which features some stiff climbs, four out of the main five climbs feature in the video. The video starts off at the summit of Hoghton Bank, where Leander can be clearly seen topping the 1/101 bank from Bamber Bridge. This is swiftly followed by a passing shot at Pleasington, which is just down the line as the loco heads towards Blackburn. Now onto the the famous long drag to Blea Moor tunnel, we capture the Jubilee roaring towards Horton In Ribblesdale on the sweeping curve towards the station. The class six comfortably handles it's 11 coach load making for a super spectacle. A few miles up the line we see 'Leander' on the approach to Selside, while still continuing at a solid pace. A great northbound climb from the LMS Jubilee ! For the southbound leg over the S&C, we would have the the wind in the wrong direction, which meant the loco would be heard late on, though the increasing sounds on approach were excellent. First off we capture 45690 passing through Kirkby Stephen station, this is followed by a low down shot at Birkitt Common as the loco powers down the long straight towards Mallerstang. Once again 'Leander' shows us her power as she works hard towards Ais Gill Summit. The final test of the day and steepest test of the day is the 1/80 Wilpshire Bank, from Whalley to Ramsgreave. Having done Leander last year up here, I decided to head before the tunnel on the sharp left hand curve. This time around the wind was in our favour and the Jube can heard digging in hard and making for an audible feast as she negotiates the curve in style ! This was our last sighting of the tour, which finished off our long day nicely ! Another superb display from 'Leander' a locomotive which goes from strength to strength every time we see her ! I hope you enjoy the video.
