Consider this: people who are 50 and over have a 1 in 3 chance of dying within the year after a hip fracture. That's a scary statistic. Why does this happen? There's the trauma of the fracture, the pain of the fracture, the anesthesia, the surgery and all of this can be a particularly large stress for people with pre-existing conditions.
