This video shows detail steps on how to convert an old or dead nicad battery pack to lithium ion 18650 cells using the same enclosure. The replacement was performed on Black and Decker firestorm 18v battery pack, however the conversion process can be applied to other brand power tool battery packs. 18650 lithium cells were harvested from used laptop batteries. After testing for capacity and amperage, good healthy cells were selected to build an 18v battery pack replacement. Take extra precaution when using 18650 cells and only use lithium charger to charge these cells. These items can be purchased off ebay along with the 5s balance wires. This conversion cost less than $12. The new lithium pack, is 4 times lighter, 2 times the capacity, and out perform nicad pack.
