The Israeli military said that one damaged a school and the other landed in a public square, but that no one was hurt. In Sderot vehicles in the street were damaged, and pieces of shrapnel were seen lodged in the walls of buildings. The rockets were seen being fired from the town of Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip, opposite Sderot. The rockets were fired despite an Israeli military airstrike on Beit Hanoun early on Sunday in which Hamas said three of its militants were killed. Palestinian hospital officials also reported that at least 11 people including one child were injured in the airstrike. Sderot has been a frequent target for Palestinian rocket attacks. Israeli armoured vehicles were seen at Nizmit on the Israel-Gaza border on Sunday morning. Israeli troops entered Beit Hanoun early on Sunday, residents and Palestinian security officials said, as attack helicopters fired machine guns from above. The Israeli military said its forces operating in the area also fired at a group of militants and a Hamas office in the Jebaliya refugee camp in the northern Gaza strip. Israel started its offensive in Gaza on June 28, three days after Hamas-backed militants tunnelled under the border and attacked an Israeli army post, killing two soldiers and capturing a third. Israel has declared two goals for its Gaza offensive, winning release of the captured soldier, Corporal Gilad Shalit, and ending Palestinian rocket fire at Israeli communities around Gaza. Ten days ago Israeli forces carried out a two-day sweep of northern Gaza, entering Beit Hanoun and another town, Beit Lahiya, looking for militants and leaving behind a swathe of destruction.
