Hiking the Jordan River Pathway - Lower Michigan Triple Crown

Join Miyagi, Rob Pelton "Krusty", Midwest Backpacker "Almost", Mark Goes Hiking, As the Crow Flies Hiking "Crow", and Backcountry Pilgrim as they hike the Jordan River Pathway as part of the first leg of the Lower Michigan Triple Crown. The Jordan River Pathway is an 18-mile (29 km) loop trail located in Michigan in Antrim County, next to the Jordan River and the Jordan River hatchery. It includes Deadman’s Hill near U.S. Route 31 in Michigan at one end and Pinney Bridge forest campground at the opposite end. One side of the loop in incorporated into the North Country Trail. The Jordan River was Michigan's first to be designated a Wild River (National Wild and Scenic Rivers System), unhindered by damming. This scenic valley is well worth a trip in any season, however fall colors are noteworthy due to its rich hardwood forests. Its looped trail system is mixed with moderate to rugged topography, providing excellent opportunities for hikers and backpackers. The full pathway is a good two-day hike. Backpackers can stay at the Pinney Bridge State Campground, located near the trail's halfway point (dispersed camping is not allowed in the Jordan Valley). Hikers can conveniently start and end at the same place if completing a smaller loop or the whole trail. This trail houses four different trailheads that allow access to the pathway, with the main trailhead located at Deadman’s Hill Overlook.
