Dekulakization, Collectivization and Terror Famine are three stages in a Great Tragedy that unfolded in the late 1920s early 1930 in the Soviet Union. In this video I discuss the causes, procedures and consequences of phase two: the collectivization of agriculture. You will find answers to the following questions: Why did Stalin decide to do in? Why in 1929-1930? Was there any opposition to in among peasants and in the Communist Party? Why did they present this catastrophe as a great success of Socialist construction? And finally, what were the long tern consequences of this assault on the country, the people and the system? Dr. Brovkin, is a Russian born American historian, now retired used to serve as Associate Professor of Soviet History at Harvard University, the author of several books on Russian History, among them: Russia After Lenin.
