Namaste Everyone! 🙏 Welcome to the most mysterious part of my Great Himalaya Trail (GHT) Journey. In this episode, I finally arrive at the legendary Shey Gompa, a spiritual sanctuary hidden deep within Upper Dolpo. Standing at the base of the holy Crystal Mountain, this place holds secrets that are over 800 years old. 🏔️ About Shey Gompa & Crystal Mountain: Believed to be constructed in the 11th Century, Shey Gompa is not just a monastery; it is the heart of Dolpo's spiritual heritage. It sits right next to the sacred Crystal Mountain (Shelri Sumdo), which is known as the "Younger Brother" of Mount Kailash. The mountain is famous for its strange geometric patterns and crystal-embedded rocks. It is said that circumambulating (Kora) this peak washes away a lifetime of sins. Walking solo through these barren landscapes, exploring the rich history of the 'Ba-Yul' (Hidden Land), and witnessing the devotion of the people here has been a life-changing experience. 📍 Journey Update: Leaving the comfort of Shey Gompa, I am now heading towards Bhijer and then moving forward to Mugu. The trail is tough, the air is thin, but the energy of the Himalayas keeps me going. This is my solo, unsupported attempt at the Great Himalaya Trail, exploring the undiscovered corners of Nepal.
