The design is such that, the pressure is applied directly to the coffee grounds, in a plumbed manner. As with the previous V3 version, this tamper is known for tamping with level. The leveling plate which rests on the rim of the portafilter ensures that the tamp will be level every time. Additionally, with the calibrated springs, the same amount of pressure can be applied during each tamp, as long as the coffee bed is the same.
