In this video, we dive into experimental studies—also known as interventional studies, longitudinal studies, or repeated measures research. Unlike descriptive or observational studies, you don’t just watch what happens in an experimental research, you actively change a variable and track the results. Here’s the key: in an experimental study, researchers divide a population into two groups—a control group and an experimental group. Both groups start off as similar as possible (homogenous), but only the experimental group receives the intervention. This could be a new policy, a training method, or in the medical field, a drug treatment. Meanwhile, the control group might receive no treatment or a placebo. After a certain period, both groups are compared to see the real effect of the intervention. While experimental research designs are considered powerful for proving cause-and-effect relationships, they are not easy to perform. Challenges like participants dropping out, loss to follow-up, and long-term commitment make them harder to execute. Still, when done right, these studies provide some of the strongest evidence in quantitative research. Subscribe to watch more such educational content!
