The project required a survey of the steel to determine weak and corroded areas. The report we produced help the client decide to repair the tanks and place them back in production. CommTank crews started the project by sandblasting the steel to white metal. Scaffolding was used to access the walls and roof. Sections of the tank that had deep pitting in the metal required steel plates to be welded over the areas. The tank has secondary containment so these exterior steel walls required repair and coating as well. The sandblasted surface was coated with an immersion grade epoxy primer. The top coat, polyamide epoxy, was chosen for its chemical resistance to fuel oil. Exterior coatings were applied in four applications with the final two being acrylic polyurethanes.
