I stayed in the Stanley Hotel a few weeks ago before all of the Coronavirus shuts downs were occurring. I stayed there by myself in one of their junior suites to get as much work done as I possibly could without distractions. I call this a work vacation and you can see the video on did on that process here: • My Work Vacation at the Stanley Hotel In E... I am not very superstitious or a ghost hunter, but the Stanley Hotel was an extremely cool place to stay. It was built in the early 1900s by FO Stanley, who also built Stanley Steemer cars with his twin brother. FO Stanley moved to Estes Park because he had tuberculosis and the high altitude was thought to be great for the disease. There was very little going on in Estes Park at the time but he loved the area and built a house there. He decided he wanted to share the area with others so he built the Stanley Hotel. He designed the buildings himself with the help of an architect. He also used his Stanley Steemer cars to transport guests up the canyon from Denver since there were very poor roads at the time. The Hotel is very similar to what it was when it was built by Stanley. I stayed in the Lodge which was built right after the Stanley but is slightly smaller. The lodge had heat while the Stanley did not until the 1980s! Steven King stayed in the hotel in the 1970s and that is where he got the idea for the Shining, a book about a hotel that shuts down in the winter in the mountains. The Shining was not filmed here, but another popular movie was. A few parts of Dumb and Dumber were shot right outside and inside the Stanley. In fact, the scene with the Lamborghini Diablo was shot at the Stanley. I have a DEiablo as well so that was really cool to me. You can see my car here: • Owning a Lamborghini Diablo for Five Years... The lodge was really cool and just as old as the Stanley. I can see why people think the property is haunted as there are creaks and groans in the old wood constantly. If the wind blows at all it whines through the old doors and vents. The hallways are long and narrow and a little creepy or cool, however, you want to look at it. The windows are old, and you even have to open the front door manually! It was really neat staying in a place with so much history. The hotel itself has been in and out of foreclosure and bankruptcy since it was built. Many people have said you own a property like this because it is so cool and fun, not to make money. It is said that it was in very poor condition throughout much of the 1970s and 1980s but there has been a lot of money spent on it recently to bring it back to life. Yet, there are still places that need paint or have some wood rot, which I think adds to the charm. My room was a suite and I am glad I got a suite because the regular rooms are very small with no desk. I needed a desk to work as I was writing my new book. I am still working on that book and hope to have it out in a few months. My book is not about a guy who goes crazy in an old hotel! But real estate. I tried to show as much of the hotel as I could and the canyon as well. It would have been tough to get there more than 100 years ago! Let me know what you think, I may have to go stay there again as it was a very neat experience.
