Dr Michael Mauro speaks to ecancer in an online interview for the ASH 2021 meeting about updated safety and efficacy results from the ASCEMBL study. Dr Mauro explains that this phase III trial used asciminib, a first-in-class STAMP inhibitor, vs bosutinib in patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia in chronic phase (CML-CP) after prior treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). He reports that this update found asciminib to have a positive benefit-risk profile, supporting its use in this heavily pretreated patient population. He concludes by discussing what he hopes to see in future studies, including the potential for combination therapies or earlier-line use.
